Suspected heroin seized and 68 arrests made in September during operation tackling drug supply in Newcastle

by · ChronicleLive

Suspected heroin and 68 suspects were arrested throughout September as part of a police operation tackling drug supply in Newcastle.

Northumbria Police's Project Adder resulted in an increase on the 42 arrests made by officers working on the same operation in August. A total of £67,500 in cash which is believed to be linked to criminality in the Newcastle area was also seized, an increase on the £32,417 uncovered the previous month.

Three kilos of suspected class A drugs, including a quantity of heroin, nine kilos of class B and 150 class C tablets were also found. Chief Inspector Robert Bosson, of Northumbria Police, said: “It is vital that we continue to disrupt and dismantle the criminal groups in our communities who are involved in the production, supply and distribution of illegal and harmful drugs.

“We will continue our work to tackle drug dealing and serious and organised crime, ensuring those behind the sale of illegal drugs and exploitation of the vulnerable are identified and put before the courts to be held responsible.”

Anyone who has information on suspected drug dealing can send Northumbria Police a direct message on social media or use the live chat on the force website. For those unable to contact the force via those ways, call 101. If a crime is taking place, call 999.
