by · ChronicleLive

A man who was seriously injured in the tragic home explosion is still in hospital.

Seven-year-old Archie York and Jason Laws, who was in his 30s, were killed in the blast, which ripped through flats on Violet Close in Benwell, Newcastle, early on Wednesday morning. Six people were taken to hospital following the incident, with five being discharged soon after.

But one man, who is in his 30s, remains in hospital, the Chronicle understands.

The cause of the explosion, which happened at around 1am, is today still being investigated.

Northumbria Police Supt Darren Adams said last week: “We are working with our partners as our investigation continues. For a number of reasons this is complex and time consuming, not least due to the level of damage which has been caused.

“As always, we would ask people not to speculate about what has happened both online and within the community. As we have previously made clear and I would reiterate now, we are committed to providing answers to what has happened. I would like to thank the community for their continued support and cooperation at this incredibly tragic time.”

Meanwhile tributes continue to flood in for Archie and Jason, who was known as Jay. A huge collection of flowers have been laid close to the scene of the explosion.

Over the weekend a number North East football clubs held periods of silence to remember the victims before their games.
