Northumberland Remembrance Day and Armistice Day plans as towns host services
by Owen Younger · ChronicleLiveRemembrance Day and Armistice Day services will be held across towns in Northumberland.
Morpeth, Hexham, and Prudhoe are among the places holding their own events over the weekend and on Monday.
Remembrance Day usually falls on the second Sunday of November, which in this case is November 10, and those wanting to pay their respects can attend events and services throughout Northumberland. Armistice Day on the following day, Monday November 11, marks the moment that the First World War came to an end.
The 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, was when the Allies signed the armistice and, as always, there will a two-minute silence at 11am. Wreaths of poppies will be laid on war memorials around the region to remember the sacrifices of those who died in the armed forces.
