Teen pedestrian seriously injured in rush hour collision near Blue House Roundabout

A teenage pedestrian was seriously injured in a rush hour collision.

The Chronicle reported on Friday how one person was taken to hospital following the crash, which happened near the Blue House roundabout on the A189 Jesmond Dene Road, in Newcastle.

Now Northumbria Police has confirmed that the casualty is a 17-year-old boy who was on foot at the time. He suffered a serious injury in the collision and today remains in hospital.

A spokesman for the force said: "Enquiries are ongoing."

The road was closed in both directions after the crash was reported, at shortly after 4pm, on Friday.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision near Blue House Roundabout at 4.13pm. We dispatched one ambulance crew and a specialist paramedic, and transported one patient to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for further treatment."

The road reopened just after 7pm.
