Two-second radiator trick will make your room twice as warm in minutes

As the chill of winter sets in and Brits turn up their heating, experts have shared a simple trick that could supercharge your home's warmth.

The window shutter specialists at California Shutters suggest this is particularly effective for those with radiators positioned next to windows.

Astonishingly, they claim it can heat your room twice as fast as usual and takes just two seconds. The hack involves simply tucking your curtains behind the radiator or folding them onto the windowsill.

According to The Sun, they explained: "When we draw our curtains over a radiator, the heat is absorbed by the nearest cold surface - usually the window - effectively warming up the glass instead of our rooms. And no one wants to waste energy heating their windows!"

By merely tucking the curtains behind the radiator or leaving them on the windowsill, the heat from the radiator can circulate properly throughout the room. Simultaneously, the curtains act as a barrier preventing heat from escaping through windows.

Michael Wray, an insulation expert from National Insulation Supplies, provided insight on a cost-effective way to enhance radiator performance which could potentially cut up to £200 off your yearly heating bills. He advised, according to the Mirror: "Adding large pieces of foil, which can be purchased as little as £1, to the back of your radiator, will reflect your radiator's heat back into the room.", reports Lancs Live.

The principle behind this affordable heating hack is the reflective quality of aluminium foil, described as 'excellent'.

This characteristic ensures that by positioning it behind radiators, essential heat is bounced back into the room, rather than being lost through walls. Wray added: "The hack is even cheaper if you have aluminium foil already in your kitchen."
