Garry Kendal's disgraceful actions concerned a passer-by so much that he filmed it on his mobile phone and contacted police. A court heard that the 35-year-old's violence erupted in full view of members of public on Front Street, in Chester-le-Street, County Durham..
It is not known what injuries the woman suffered as she refused to make a statement but Kendal was prosecuted using the mobile phone footage as evidence. Now, the brute, of Norfolk Place, in Birtley, Gateshead, has been given a 12-month community order after he pleaded guilty to assault by beating and a separate offence of obstructing a police officer.
Sentencing him at Newcastle Magistrates' Court, District Judge Paul Currer said: "This was extremely unpleasant and so horrifying for people watching it that they took footage of it. I have no doubt that this was fuelled by your excessive alcohol consumption."
The court heard that Kendal and his partner began arguing in Chester-le-Street on the afternoon of August 6 this year but it quickly turned violent. Prosecutor, Paul Anderson, said: "He punched her with his left fist to her head.
"He then moved towards her in an attempt to bite her. She didn't make a complaint to police but a passer-by took footage on his phone."
The court heard that the obstructing offence happened on August 15 when he tried to stop police gaining entry into a house in order to arrest a woman. At the time of both offences, Kendal was on a suspended sentence.
Alanna Wesncraft, defending, said: "He himself recognises he's got a problem with alcohol and does need some assistance with that."
As well as the community order, Kendal was must do a nine-month Alcohol Treatment Requirement, was fined £200 and must pay £85 costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
