Woman in court accused of stabbing random member of the public at Newcastle petrol station

by · ChronicleLive

A woman has appeared in court accused of stabbing a random member of the public at a Tyneside petrol station.

Julie Cook is alleged to have attacked the person at Denton Burn Petrol Station, in Denton, Newcastle, on Monday, October 28. The 52-year-old was arrested and appeared in the dock at Newcastle Magistrates' Court less than 24 hours later.

Cook, of Keswick Grove, in Slatyford, Newcastle, was charged with wounding with intent and two counts of possessing a bladed article. Because of the seriousness of the first allegation, no pleas were taken during the brief hearing.

Cook, wearing a grey tracksuit top, spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth, address and to confirm she understood the charges against her. Claire Armstrong, prosecuting, said: "The first matter, the wounding with intent, can only be heard at the crown court, so the Crown would invite you to send it there."

Magistrates remanded Cook in custody to next appear at Newcastle Crown Court on November 27, when she will be expected to enter a plea to the allegations.
