Ryton attack victim suffers 'life-changing' injuries as police launch assault investigation

An assault in Ryton which left a man with life-changing injuries is being investigated by police in Gateshead. It was reported that a man in his 50s was receiving treatment in hospital after the assault, on Thursday, March 14.

Police say an unknown offender approached the victim on Hawthorn Gardens, before pushing him over and striking him to the back of the head. The victim sustained life-changing injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remains receiving treatment.

Extensive inquiries into the circumstances around the incident have been carried out by Northumbria Police officers since the report came in, and they are ongoing.

Northumbria Police are now appealing to the public for further information that might assist their inquiries. They are particularly keen to speak to a woman who is believed to have helped the victim get back home after the assault.
