Newcastle's favourite dog breeds revealed as pet lovers celebrate World Animal Day
A list has been released ranking Newcastle's favourite dog breeds
by Owen Younger · ChronicleLiveCocker Spaniels and Rottweilers have been named as Newcastle's favourite dog breeds as pet lovers celebrate World Animal Day today. Cocker Spaniels also top the UK list, with Rottweilers coming in at third place overall.
Open Study College has analysed data relating to search terms which include the names of dog breeds in the UK, revealing which is the most searched for, and therefore the favourite.
With around 13 million dogs living in the country today, the UK is the second-highest dog-owning nation in the world. There are 400 dog breeds recognised worldwide, but this research found that, both regionally and nationally, there are strong preferences.
Both Cocker Spaniels and Rottweilers average 1000 monthly searches, with Cocker Spaniels being known for their gentle temperament, being affectionate and lively, and their good behaviour with children. Rottweilers, when trained well, are loyal, safe and well-behaved.
Coming in at second, all averaging 880 monthly searches, are Dachshunds, German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers. All three of these breeds are known to be playful, gentle and good with children, making them ideal family pets.
Completing the top three is the French Bulldog, averaging 720 monthly searches. French Bulldogs are laid back, and are also very good with children, making them a very good option for a family animal.
