Approximately 1.6 million residents across Britain are on the brink of being transitioned from Employment Support Allowance (ESA) to Universal Credit, as part of the government's plan to consolidate several benefits into a single monthly payment.

ESA claimants many of whom cannot work due to health complications began receiving migration notices in September, alerting them of the need to switch to Universal Credit within three months or face cessation of their benefits.

With deadlines looming and Christmas approaching, individuals who miss migrating could see their benefits cut abruptly. It is imperative for those on ESA to move promptly to Universal Credit to avoid lapses in financial aid.

Other benefits such as Housing Benefit, Income Support, and tax credits also fall under the category of 'legacy' benefits that are being systematically replaced.

Official guidance from the governments website states: "Move to Universal Credit if you get a Migration Notice letter. As one or more of your benefits will be ending soon, you need to move to Universal Credit."

It adds, "To continue receiving financial support you must claim Universal Credit by the deadline date given in your letter. This is three months from the date the letter was sent out.", reports the Manchester Evening News.
