Tiverton residents invited to learn how Devon is tackling cybercrime

Cybercrime rates have soared, costing the UK economy billions each year

by · DevonLive

Residents in Tiverton have the chance to learn how cybercrime is being fought in Devon.

Tiverton Civic Society's next presentation will be held in the Council Chamber, Tiverton Town Hall, on Tuesday, October 8, at 7.30 pm (doors open at 7 pm).

Mick Harrison – 'Cyber Crime' is the title of this month's presentation.

Mick is an Officer in Devon and Cornwall Police's Cyber Crime Protect Team, which belongs to the National Cyber Protect Network and forms part of Team Cyber UK. More than 800,000 people in the United Kingdom fall victim to cyberattacks each year, which represents a major loss for many businesses. Cybercrime rates have increased by 300% since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recent estimates suggest that the loss to the British economy is £27 billion per year, much more than the new government's 'Black Hol'e.
