Hunt for knifeman after incident near primary school in Paignton
by Toby Codd · DevonLiveA man threatened a member of the public with a knife near a school in Paignton this morning, Tuesday, November 19. Police were called to Curledge Street at around 8.40am. There is now a heightened police presence to reassure the public.
The suspect was spotted in a vehicle with a knife before fleeing the area. Police have confirmed that the incident was not connected with the nearby Curledge Street Academy.
Officers are now carrying out searches in the area to find the man. Police officers are also set to stay in the area throughout the day.
Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were notified at around 8.40am to reports that a man had threatened a member of the public on Curledge Street in Paignton.
"Reports were received that a man had been seen in a vehicle with what was believed to be a knife before he left the area in the vehicle. Officers have been deployed to the area and searches are ongoing.
"Although the report took place near the local school, the incident was in no way related to the school. Local neighbourhood officers will be carrying out reassurance patrols in and around that area today."
