November court cases: Devon damage and Exeter violence
by Paul Greaves · DevonLiveA protester who caused damage to a university building and a violent assault in Axminster are among the cases heard by magistrates in Devon. People in this list all appeared at the magistrates in November.
They include a 41-year-old who assaulted a man in Heavitree, a 61-year-old woman fined for drink driving and two shoplifters who targeted Marks & Spencer in the centre of Exeter.
Here are 20 cases to appear before the magistrates between November 12 and 15.
NOVEMBER 12
Teri Panell, Mead Cottages, Littleham. Age: 35. On 27/04/2024 at Exmouth drug driving. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for 14 months. Fine £120.
Emma Carnell, Corn Mill Crescent. Exeter. Age: 19. On 30/04/2024 at Rydon Lane, Exeter, Drug driving. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for 12 months Fine £201.
Andrew Short, Appledore Farm, Bow. Age: 31. On 12/05/2024 at Bow criminal damage to a property and motor vehicle. Plea: Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Alcohol treatment for six months. Rehabilitation for up to 20 days. Compensation £500. Restraining order.
Oliver Elstone, Lupin Way, Willand. Age: 41. On 18/04/2024 at Fore Street, Cullompton, breached a non-molestation order. Plea: Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Rehabilitation activity. Unpaid work for 100 hours.
Ria Moore, Heavitree Road, Exeter. Age: 44. On 16/08/2024 at High Street, Exeter, stole alcohol from M&S. Plus four further thefts and possess pregabalin in Tiverton. Plea: Guilty. 25 weeks suspended for 12 months.
Kevin Blatchford, North Lawn Court, Exeter. Age: 41. On 19/10/2024 at Fore Street, Heavitree, assaulted a male by beating. Plea: Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Unpaid work for 120 hours. Compensation £100.
Brandon Cope, Quinta Road, Torquay. Age: 25. On 20/10/2024 at Dawlish Road Exeter drink driving. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for 19 months. Fine £461.
Kevin Newberry, Carpenter Close, Tiverton. Age: 59. On 21/10/2024 at Exeter drink driving on M5. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for 20 months. Fine £276.
NOVEMBER 13
Charles David-Purdon, West Street, Axminster. Age: 43. On 13/07/2024 at Axminster assaulted a male causing ABH. Plea: Guilty. Compensation £200. Fine £300.
Gavin Shrigley, Pottery Close, Honiton. Age: 45. On 14/07/2024 at Salterton Road, Exmouth, driver failed to provide a specimen. Plea: Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Unpaid work for 150 hours. Disqualified for 21 months.
Brett Willey, Alphington Street, Exeter. Age: 42. Between 09/08/2022 and 02/06/2024 at Exeter harassment without violence. Plea: Guilty. Ten weeks suspended for two years. Unpaid work for 200 hours.
Vera Hobson, Bradham Court, Exmouth. Age: 61. On 21/09/2024 at Exeter drink driving. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for 40 months. Fine £120.
George Simonson, Rye Lane, London. Age: 24. On 11/10/2023 at Exeter damaged the Forum building at Exeter University. Plea: Guilty. Prison six weeks. Compensation £3,227.

Luke Kelsall, Smythen Street, Exeter. Age: 27. On 22/09/2024 at High Street, Exeter, stole bedding from Marks and Spencer. Plus six further shoplifting. Plea: Guilty. Prison for 18 weeks. Compensation £730.
Kieran Viner, Lethaby Road, Branstaple. Age: 25. On 03/05/2024 at Ilfracombe drink driving. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for 15 months. Fined £380.
