The Yangon Region Gold Entrepreneurs Association (YGEA) has advised gold shop owners to enhance the security of their homes and vehicles used for transporting gold, in addition to safeguarding their shops. This warning follows the robbery of five visses of gold from a shop owner in Hlaing Township.

The owner of a gold shop was robbed of his golds by two armed men at about 6:30 pm on October 21 after he arrived back home located on Aye Yeik Mon Road in Ward 4, Hlaing Township from his gold shop.

After this incident, the YGEA issued a warning to gold dealers to pay attention to security.

The owners of gold shops in Yangon Region should install CCTV cameras around their homes and parking lots, install emergency alarm bells, install cameras in cars that will carry gold and silver and install GPS systems in advance, just as they have installed CCTV cameras in their gold shops. By doing so, it will prevent crimes and robberies from occurring, announced the YGEA.

It is known that a case has been opened at the relevant police station regarding the robbery of gold in Hlaing Township.

Last May, a TK gold shop in Tamwe Township, Yangon Region was robbed, and nearly two million worth of gold ornaments and more than 65 million kyats in cash were stolen.

In 2023, a gold shop owner from Kyimyindine Township was killed, looted and his body was dumped on the highway. The perpetrators were arrested and sentenced to prison terms and death penalty.

Similarly, some robberies of gold shops have also occurred in Mandalay.
