Bodies of two children and young woman recovered from capsized boat in Taninthayi Region

The Friendship Rescue Team in Myeik Township, Taninthayi Region, has reported the recovery of the bodies of two children and a young woman from the boat that capsized near Kyaukkar Village in Palaw Township.

 The bodies were retrieved around 9 a.m. on October 22.

“We found more bodies yesterday morning. Including the eight recovered on October 21, we’ve now found 11 victims. 

According to our records, 17 people are still missing. With these three additional recoveries, 14 people remain unaccounted for. The search continues,” said an official from the Friendship Rescue Team.

The two children recovered are believed to be around four years old, while the young woman was 16 years old. 

The tragic incident occurred on the evening of October 21 when a boat traveling from Kyaukkar Village to Myeik capsized.

The boat was reportedly carrying over 80 passengers, along with cargo. Many of the passengers were children returning home after the Thadingyut holiday to resume school. 

The search and rescue operations are ongoing.
