Gun, ammunition and drugs seized as gardai arrest five men in search operation

Gardai yesterday seized a gun and bullets, as well as a quantity of drugs, in the course of a search operation in Co Dublin.

As part of Operation Tara, garda members attached to the District Drugs Unit in Ballyfermot conducted a search at a residential premises in the Saggart area of the capital.

A firearm, rounds of ammunition and a small amount of suspected cannabis and diazepam were all seized during the course of the search.

Gardai confirmed the arrest of five men, among a wide variety of ages, while all items included in the seizure will be subject to forensic and ballistic analysis.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told The Irish Mirror: "Five males, aged in their teens, 20s and 40s, were arrested and are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at Garda Stations in west Dublin.

"The scene is currently being preserved for technical examination.

"Investigations are ongoing."
