Man dead, woman seriously injured after being struck by car in a supermarket carpark in Fermoy, Cork

Gardai are appealing for witnesses after man aged in his 90s and a woman aged in her 60s were struck by a car in a supermarket car park in Fermoy on Friday morning

A man aged in his 90s has died and a woman is seriously injured after being struck by a car in a car park in East Cork on Friday morning.

Gardaí and emergency services, including members of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) and an air ambulance responded to the incident, which occurred at approximately 11:15am in a supermarket car park along the Courthouse Road in Fermoy.

Two individuals were struck by a car. One of these individuals, a man aged in his 90s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second individual, a woman aged in her 60s, has been taken to Cork University Hospital to be treated for injuries believed to be serious.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 90s, received medical attention at the scene. The scene has been preserved for technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators.

The woman was rushed to Cork University Hospital

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward, including any pedestrians or road users who may have camera footage.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are investigating a fatal incident in a supermarket carpark in Fermoy Co. Cork this morning, Friday, 18 October.

They added: “Any pedestrians who were travelling in the environs of Courthouse Road, Fermoy Town, between 10.45am and 11.30am on Friday 18 October are asked to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in this area at these times are also asked to come forward.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Fermoy Garda Station at 025 82100, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
