PTSB customers express outrage after delays to wage payments due to ‘technical issue’
by Conor Heneghan · Irish MirrorPTSB customers have been left frustrated by delays to wages and other payments due to a ‘technical issue’.
The bank issued a statement on Friday morning to advise customers of a “technical issue with a third party” that was causing customers to experience delays “when sending or receiving SEPA payments”.
SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) payments were introduced for credit transfers in 2008 and direct debits in 2009 and allow customers to make cashless euro payments – via credit transfer and direct debit – across Europe.

The PTSB statement read: “Due to a technical issue with a third party, some customers may be experiencing delays when sending or receiving SEPA payments. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. We are working hard to resolve the issue and will provide a further update as soon as possible.”
PTSB customers expressed outrage at the development on Friday morning, with the issue falling at a particularly bad time considering that many workers get paid on the last Friday of the month, as well as today marking Black Friday, with shoppers hoping to bag deals offered in-store and online by retailers.
One PTSB customer on X wrote: “Not good enough, this has obviously been an issue since yesterday as every non PTSB account holder I work with was paid in the normal manner yesterday, I presume that any charges for missed Direct debits will be waived?”
Another said: “This is just not good enough. I got the first message on my app at 1am in relation to a third party problem. Almost 7 hours later and it has still not been resolved.”
Amid a stream of comments under the PTSB post on X, meanwhile, another frustrated customer wrote: “It's payday for many people. It's also Black Friday and a time when people are depending on money to shop for Christmas. The timing is impeccable.”
A PTSB update shortly issued shortly before 9am on Friday read: “Customers, we expect this issue to be resolved for a majority of customers by mid-morning. All other PTSB services are operating as normal, we apologise again for any inconvenience caused.”
