Gardai seized the vehicle on the spot

Gardai seize vehicle after discovering motorist breaking four cardinal rules

by · Irish Mirror

Gardai nabbed a cheeky motorist flouting a series of road rules in Roscommon recently.

While on patrol on Monday, gardai attached to the Roads Policing Unit spotted a driver who wasn't wearing his seatbelt.

After pulling over the motorist, gardai discovered even more flagrant breaking of the road rules: the driver was an unaccompanied learner with no L-plates and no insurance. The vehicle was clamped on the spot, with a court date stamped for the driver.

Taking to social media, Gardai flagged the incident, cautioning others to not make a similar blunder. A garda spokesperson said: "Roscommon Gardaí were on patrol when they saw that the driver of this car was not wearing their seatbelt."

The spokesperson added: "When they were stopped, it was found that the driver was an unaccompanied learner with no L-plates or insurance.

"The car was seized. Court to follow."

Just before this episode, the Gardai had a similar encounter in Limerick - a van handler was also a solo-learner who was driving without insurance, reports Galway Beo.

Detailing the incident on their Facebook page, a garda spokesperson said: "When Gardaí in Limerick stopped this van during a checkpoint last night, they discovered that the driver was an unaccompanied learner."

They continued, "When they checked the reg of the van on their mobility device they saw that he wasn't insured to drive either."
