Cyclist found unresponsive on the side of the road in Kerry named as tributes pour in

Tributes have poured in for a cyclist who died after being found unresponsive on the side of the road in Kerry.

Ciaran Ó Nualláin, who was 68, was found on the roadside at Bracker O’Regan Road, Tralee in the early hours of Sunday morning. The victim, who had been riding an electric bike, was rushed to University Hospital Kerry, where he has since passed away.

It is believed he fell from his bike and hit his head and the incident at this time is not being treated as being suspicious.

Gardaí have urged anybody that was travelling or provided assistance to the cyclist between 12.20 am and 12.50 am on Sunday morning to come forward.

Tralee Mayor Mikey Sheehy told the Irish Mirror: "It is with great sadness that we learned of the tragic passing of a cyclist in our community. On behalf of the people of Tralee, I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this heartbreaking loss. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.”

In a statement, Gardaí said they “are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic incident in Tralee, County Kerry, on Sunday 20th October 2024".

“At approximately 12.45 am, emergency services were alerted after a cyclist was found unresponsive on the roadside at Bracker O’Regan Road, Tralee. The cyclist, a man in his 60s, was riding an electric bike (e-bike) at the time of the incident.”

They added: “The man was conveyed to University Hospital Kerry after the incident and has now been pronounced deceased. The local coroner has been notified, and arrangements will now be made for a post-mortem examination.

“Gardaí are appealing for any persons that were travelling or provided assistance to the cyclist on Caherslee Road & Bracker O'Regan Road, Tralee, between 12.20 am and 12.50 am on Sunday morning the 20th of October, including persons with dash-cam and mobile phone footage, to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Tralee Garda Station at 066 710 2300, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
