Gardai set to launch murder investigation after discovery of body of missing man

Gardaí are set to launch a murder investigation after discovering the body of missing man Stephen Ring in a remote part of Co Wexford.

Officers discovered the injured body of Mr Ring (27) in a woodland area in Shelmalier Commons on Sunday afternoon. They subsequently arrested a man and a woman in connection with his death - and a murder investigation will now be launched.

In a statement, Gardaí said: “Gardaí in Wexford are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body of a male, aged in his 20s in Shelmalier Commons, Co. Wexford this afternoon, Sunday 27 October.

“The body remains at the scene which is currently preserved. The Garda National Technical Bureau have been notified and a technical examination of the scene is taking place.

Gardaí have arrested a male aged in his 40s and a female in her 30s, and they are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the Wexford Division.

“A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Wexford Garda Station.”
