Young man in critical condition following horror crash in Limerick as Gardai close road

The incident occurred on the Kilmallock Road (Old Cork Road) in Limerick city at approximately 7.10pm on Monday, 16 December.
A man in his 20s who was travelling on an electric motorbike was discovered on the road with serious injuries. He was removed to University Hospital Limerick before subsequently being transferred to Cork University Hospital for treatment. Gardaí have described his condition as “critical”.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward, in particular anyone who may have been in the vicinity of where the crash took place between 7 and 7.30pm on Monday evening. The road remains closed pending a technical examination and local diversions are in place.
An Garda Síochána issued a statement which read: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic incident that occurred on the Kilmallock Road (Old Cork Road) in Limerick city on Monday evening, 16th December 2024.
“A man, 20s, who was travelling on an electric motorbike was discovered with serious injuries on the road. The incident occurred at approximately 7:10pm. The injured man was removed to University Hospital Limerick. He has since been transferred to Cork University Hospital where his condition is described as critical.
“The scene of the incident on the Kilmallock Road remains preserved this morning for a technical examination. Local diversions are in place.
“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward. Any road users or pedestrians who were in the area between 7.00pm and 7.30pm and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available.
“Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061 214 340, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
