Nine arrested after early morning gunshot

Nine people have been taken into custody after a shot was fired in Napier overnight.

Police say five people were charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm. The other four were released without charge.

The police say it happened at West Quay in Ahuriri after 3am Sunday.

No one was injured, and the person believed to be responsible left in a vehicle with several others. It was found 10 minutes later in Taradale.

A .22 firearm was found nearby.

Local media reported the incident happened near a nightclub.
