Man arrested after shots fired through window in Lower Hutt

A gang member has been arrested after shots were fired through the window of a house in Lower Hutt.

Police were called to the home on Coast Road in Wainuiomata at 2.40am on Saturday.

They said a man known to the occupants left on a scooter and got into his car, which was parked nearby.

A 36-year-old gang member was found at a house in Lower Hutt a short time later and was arrested.

He will appear in Lower Hutt District Court on Monday, charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

"Police are conducting scene examinations at the two addresses this morning and would like to hear from anyone who has information which could assist our investigation" Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch said.

"We are also seeking sightings of the man's silver Mazda Axela hatchback in Wainuiomata and Lower Hutt."
