Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena has called for the strict enforcement of tobacco-free guidelines in educational institutions across Delhi. This initiative, launched as part of his ongoing campaign against drug abuse, aims to foster a healthier learning environment in schools and colleges.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the LG’s office revealed that nodal officers will be appointed in every educational institution to ensure compliance with the guidelines. These officers' names and contact details will be prominently displayed in their respective institutions.

The directive follows the 9th review meeting of the State-Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD), where Saxena emphasized the need for stringent implementation of tobacco-control measures under the Directorate of Education and the Higher Education Department.

The LG instructed the Chief Secretary to issue orders to appoint these officers and ensure adherence to the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003. He further stressed the need to increase awareness about the dangers of tobacco use, initiate cessation programs, and provide counselling services for students and staff.

The initiative also addresses concerns raised by the Special Commissioner of Police (ANTF) regarding drug abuse in schools and colleges and the lack of adequate support systems for affected students and parents.

Through these measures, LG Saxena aims to create a safe and supportive educational atmosphere, curbing harmful habits and promoting student well-being.
