The Ignou PhD registration deadline has been extended by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to November 25, giving aspiring scholars extra time to register.

Interested candidates can submit their applications online at ignouadm.samarth.edu.in.

IGNOU PHD ELIGIBILITY

Candidates must hold a valid UGC NET score, either with Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or from the 2024 UGC NET cycle.

This is in line with the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) 2022 regulations for PhD admissions. The application fee for all candidates is Rs 1,000.

SPECIAL PROVISIONS FOR PwD CANDIDATES

Ignou has reserved 5 per cent of the total seats for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) who have a disability of at least 40 per cent. However, these candidates will not be included in the total seat count under categories such as General, SC, ST, OBC, or EWS.

IGNOU PHD ADMISSION PROCESS AND WEIGHTAGE

According to IGNOU’s guidelines, JRF-qualified candidates will be admitted based on interviews, which will carry 100 per cent weightage. The interview process will evaluate applicants across three components:

  • Research methodology (40%)
  • Subject domain expertise (40%)
  • Communication skills (20%)

HOW TO REGISTER FOR IGNOU PHD PROGRAMME

Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to register for the IGNOU PhD programme:

  1. Visit the official website: Go to the IGNOU admission portal.
  2. Start new registration: Click on the ‘New Registration’ option under the applicant login.
  3. Create an account: Enter your name and set a password to create an account.
  4. Check for username details: Your username will be sent to you via email and SMS once your account is created.
  5. Log in and fill out the form: Use the provided username to log in and complete the application form.
  6. Submit documents and payment: Upload the required documents and pay the application fee.
  7. Save your confirmation: Download and keep the confirmation page for future reference.

A combined merit list will be created for candidates with JRF qualifications and valid UGC NET scores, ensuring adherence to the Government of India's reservation policy.
