Delhi University has mandated that candidates contesting the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections sign an affidavit pledging to refrain from using loudspeakers, firecrackers, pamphlets, and dhols after the results are announced. Additionally, roadshows or rallies to celebrate victories have been strictly prohibited, according to university officials.

The affidavit stipulates that any violation of these conditions could lead to the disqualification of the elected candidate or cancellation of their win. This move aligns with existing election rules and comes in the wake of a Delhi High Court case addressing the defacement of public property during the DUSU polls.

Candidates must submit the affidavit to the Chief Election Officer by Sunday. However, as of now, only about half of the 21 central panel candidates have complied, sources revealed.

The DUSU results, initially slated for September 28, faced nearly two months of delays due to court orders, which required the university to clean up the campaign-related defacement before declaring winners. While the university submitted a status report, cleanup delays pushed the results first to November 21 and now to November 25.

With results set to be announced on Monday, the university is taking extra measures to ensure strict adherence to election guidelines and a smooth conclusion to the electoral process.
