The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote commerce-based skill courses amongst students. Through ICAI's Committee on Career Counselling, this initiative focusses on the banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) sector. The partnership is done to enhance students' employability and career opportunities by providing specialised skill development in commerce-related fields.
As part of this initiative, ICAI will lend its expertise to developing course content, study materials, and training modules.
The institute will also play an active role in organising workshops, training sessions, and career counselling activities to raise awareness about career prospects in accountancy and related fields.
The major aspect of the partnership involves sensitising educators and students to the broad opportunities available in the commerce sector.
IMPORTANT DETAILS OF THE AGREEMENT
Highlighting the importance of the agreement, ICAI President CA Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal stated: “This MoU marks a pivotal step towards building a robust skill development ecosystem for students across India. By promoting commerce-based skill courses, we aim to equip students with industry-relevant competencies and bridge the gap between education and professional educational demands. This partnership will undoubtedly open new career pathways in accountancy and finance”.
The collaboration also includes awareness programmes for school principals, teachers, and management teams in CBSE-affiliated schools. These sessions will underscore the role of BFSI-related skill courses in shaping students’ careers.
Additionally, CBSE plans to conduct capacity-building initiatives to enhance the capabilities of teachers in commerce-related subjects, ensuring they are well-prepared to deliver these specialised courses effectively.
ICAI’s efforts to promote education and professional development extend beyond this partnership. The institute has already signed 85 agreements with various universities, colleges, and educational institutions to foster academic excellence, research, and knowledge sharing.
These initiatives aim to create a workforce equipped to meet the demands of a rapidly changing economy, ICAI said in a statement.
