In the QS Asia University Rankings 2025, India has taken the lead as the most represented country with 162 universities amongst the total of 984 listed institutions. This marks a significant achievement in terms of sheer numbers, as India surpasses China, which has 132 universities in the rankings.
Despite this strong presence, only two Indian institutions have made it to the top 50. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi ranks at 44th, followed by IIT Bombay at 48th.
