The Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued instructions to all 12 special schools for students with disabilities, emphasising the need for strict adherence to guidelines set by the Inclusive Education Branch (IEB).

As per the October 22, 2024 directive, school heads must submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) by November 5, detailing their compliance efforts with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016, and the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The order mandates that all 19 provisions aimed at inclusive education be met. These provisions include admitting students to appropriate classes, providing online assessments, free aids and appliances, and smart classrooms, along with specialised training in Braille, sign language, and other communication skills.

Additionally, schools are required to develop structured schedules for special education teachers, maintain records of students’ disability certificates and Unique Disability IDs (UDID), conduct comprehensive case studies, and facilitate regular assessments for each student.

To meet the physical, psychological, and social needs of students, schools are also directed to create recreational rooms, multipurpose halls, emergency rooms, and time-out zones, and to install CCTV cameras to enhance safety measures for students with disabilities.
