Matt Gaetz has withdrawn as President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general following scrutiny over a federal sex trafficking investigation.

The Florida Republican made the announcement Thursday.

Gaetz said in the announcement on X that his nomination was “unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance transition.”

“Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day,” Gaetz added.
