'Deeply unfair': Scouts Canada wrong to deny renewal of 86-year-old's application, judge rules

He was 'denied any semblance of due process,' wrote the judge about Wayne Hannan, who had been a member of the organization for 66 years

An octogenarian Ottawa scouter “treated shabbily” by Scouts Canada deserves to get his volunteer gig back, says an Ontario Superior Court judge.

The judge said Wayne Hannan was wrongly accused of being a safety hazard and resistant to change, calling some of the allegations “deeply unfair to an elderly and long serving volunteer.”

The 86-year-old, who was known as “Scouter Wayne,” had been with the organization for 66 years.
