Bulwell man denies stabbing and stamping on woman in cashpoint robbery

A Nottingham man has appeared in court having been charged with robbing and attacking a woman as she withdrew money from a cashpoint. Bobby Lunt pleaded not guilty to robbery when he appeared from custody at Nottingham Crown Court.

Dressed in a grey Nike tracksuit, the 40-year-old also denied offences of possession of a bladed article and possession of an offensive weapon - namely a hammer. Judge Steven Coupland asked William Bennett, the defendant’s barrister: “What are the issues in this case please? Does he accept presence at the scene?”

He replied: “No he does not. He can’t say where he was but he was not there and did not play any part in it.” Nottinghamshire Police say the victim was robbed in the street after she withdrew cash from a bank in Main Street, Bulwell, around 12.15am on July 6.

They say she reported being stabbed in the leg, hit with a hammer and stamped on by two offenders who then fled with cash but she was not seriously injured. A force spokesman previously said: “Detectives have been carrying out extensive inquiries in the area and analysing CCTV footage.”

Lunt, of Lathkill Close, Bulwell, was told his trial will take place the week commencing March 10, 2025, and was remanded into custody by Judge Coupland. Meanwhile his co-defendant, 38-year-old Clare Turner, of Kersall Drive, Bulwell, has also been charged with robbery and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

She has already appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court and was due to enter her pleas on the same day as Lunt, but failed to turn up for the hearing. When her barrister, David Watts, was asked where she was, he replied: “I don’t know, she knows she should be here.”

Judge Coupland issued a warrant for her arrest. In a previous statement, Detective Chief Inspector Claire Gould, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “I hope both the victim and wider community are comforted that two suspects have now been placed before the courts.

“Street robberies of this nature are treated with the utmost seriousness by the force because of the lasting impact they can have on victims.”
