Drivers using trick to stop windscreen fogging up with this one product
by Oscar Fisher, Vita Molyneux · NottinghamshireLiveAs motorists grapple with wintry conditions, one persistent annoyance emerges - a foggy windscreen. Not only is it bothersome, but it could also land you in hot water financially.
Driving without a clear line of sight due to fog or ice on your windows could lead to a £100 penalty and earn you three points on your driving licence. Thankfully, a straightforward and economical hack exists to keep your windshield clear - simply use some shaving cream, reports the Express.
Liam Spencer of Northallerton Glass shared: "The shaving foam adds a semi-permanent barrier to the windscreen, which prevents water droplets from forming." He added, "Although this barrier isn't permanent and will need to be re-applied, it will make the windscreen less likely to become foggy.”
Furthermore, he warned, "Driving with foggy windows or a foggy windshield can be dangerous as it reduces visibility and can increase the risk of accidents. If you do not have the time to slowly warm up the inside of your car to reduce the fog, shaving foam is a great, budget-friendly solution this winter if you do not want to invest in expensive, specialist products."
Liam proposes the following steps:
- Spray a small dollop of shaving foam onto a clean microfibre cloth. .
- Gently spread the shaving foam across the interior of the windscreen, covering it completely with the foam.
- Cleanse the windscreen with the cloth until all the shaving foam has been wiped off, using another clean microfibre cloth if necessary.
While there are specialist de-fogging products on the market, they can be expensive, averaging around £6, compared to just £1 for shaving foam. If you're considering this method, ensure you use foam and not gel, as the latter won't yield the same results.
Also, be careful not to let the shaving foam come into contact with your car's paintwork, as it could cause damage.
