Screaming woman 'had to be restrained' by police at scene of house fire where two people died

A woman was seen screaming and had to be restrained from a house in after two people tragically lost their lives in a fire. The blaze broke out in the early hours of the morning in the Stoke Aldermoor area of Coventry with neighbours describing the scene as "absolute chaos".

Emergency services were called to the property on The Coppice around 4.50am, where sadly, two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses described the distressing situation, with police officers attempting to console a woman who reportedly knew the victims and tried to breach the cordon.

Several officers surrounded her, eventually leading her away from the burnt remains of the house. Neighbours believe that a man and woman in their late 20s or early 30s resided in the property.

A local resident said: "My husband was woken up by the fire engines and police. They were everywhere in the street and there was lots of people shouting.

"I looked out of my window and it was absolute chaos. I've since found out that two people have sadly died. The road was closed by police and I haven't been able to drive back to my house.", reports the Mirror.

A man living opposite the house reported seeing firefighters searching a nearby field in the early hours. Another neighbour mentioned leaving his house at 4.45am and noticing police combing the area.

A local resident shared his experience, stating: "I saw someone walking up and down banging a metal pole on the floor, I thought someone was about to do a house over or something. So when I got in the car I took a drive up the road just up to the end of the street and realised it was the fire brigade. They were searching around on the field and stuff, I thought they were looking for a fire hydrant in the floor

"The weird part about it was I couldn't smell or see or hear anything. It was pitch black, too. I would have expected to smell the smoke. I've heard that two people have been reported to have been killed in the fire. There was something about a bloke with a dog as well that they were searching for."

Another resident, a woman, said: "My son woke me up, he said he could see the flashing lights and there was a fire engine. It's awful. I've seen them about but I didn't know them. It's a woman and her boyfriend I'm guessing. Maybe late 20s early 30s. They weren't very old."

She continued: "The girl was white with blonde hair and I think he was a young Asian lad. I'm shocked there's damage at the top but not at the bottom of the house. I can see the windows, they've melted out of the frame. They're all plastic, so they've just melted. They've lived here for a few years."

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to The Coppice at 4.47am and dispatched one ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Trust's Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.

A spokesperson expressed the tragic outcome following an incident, stating: "On arrival ambulance staff worked closely with colleagues from the fire service and police and were able to identify two patients. Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save either of the patients and they were confirmed dead at the scene."
