Popular Mansfield bistro closes despite glowing TripAdvisor reviews

by · NottinghamshireLive

A popular Mansfield bistro near a housing development in an old quarry has closed as contractors have been seen working at the site. The No 5 Bistro had operated at the Madeline Court retail area for many years, serving the Quarry Bank estate comprising around 900 homes.

Madeline Court was created around the time of the housing development's growth and the No 5 Bistro's unit was formerly occupied by the Tom Browns bistro for many years. Many businesses have come and gone at Madeline Court over the years and now the No 5 Bistro has joined their ranks.

'To let' signs are up on the business's former unit and contractors were seen on-site on Tuesday (December 10) doing work inside. The site appears to have closed towards the end of the summer, with the most recent listing from FHP being posted in mid-September.

The listing reads: "Madeline Court is located one mile south-east of Mansfield town centre off Berry Hill Lane and serves the Quarry Bank residential housing estate comprising of over 900 homes and being the only retail provision within the estate. The subject property occupies a prominent position within the scheme with excellent frontage.

"Internally, the property is a part fitted café with a large open plan seating area with kitchen and prep area and the benefit of a substantial external seating area to the rear for further customer seating." The site is being marketed with a quoting rent of £51,000 a year and a service charge of around £7,500 a year.

Other businesses in Madeline Court include a branch of One Stop and the Clay Oven Tandoori takeaway. The No 5 Bistro's closure comes despite the venue's TripAdvisor page showing that the majority of reviews are glowing. A review posted in June 2024 reads: "My hubby and I have been coming here now for six months and I cannot praise No. 5 Bistro enough.

"We visit every Sunday lunch and also enjoy dinner every Thursday. The food is amazing the staff are so friendly and nothing is too much we trouble. We don't go anywhere else now."
