Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to after a Nottingham driver was punched following a collision with a pedestrian. The motorist was travelling along Fletcher Gate in the city centre at around 1.30pm on September 30 when a woman walked into the side of his car as she tried to cross the road.

A man who witnessed the collision then smashed the car's window by kicking it, according to Nottinghamshire Police. The force said he then leaned into the car and punched the driver twice in the face.

Police have now issued an image of a man who they believe could have important information about the violent act. PC Laura Hunt, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an unprovoked attack that understandably left the driver feeling very shaken.

Do you recognise this man? Police want to speak to him about the incident

“He did the right thing in stopping when the pedestrian walked into his car and did not deserve what happened to him next. He sustained bruising to the face and a broken tooth and we are determined to bring the person responsible to justice.

“Having reviewed CCTV footage of the incident, we are satisfied that the man pictured in these images will be able to assist the investigation. To this end we encourage him to come forward as soon as possible. Equally, if you recognise him please get in touch by calling 101 quoting crime reference 24* 583451.”
