Decomposed dog found in Nottingham park by council workers in 'extremely distressing discovery'

Council workers have found the decomposed remains of a dog in a Nottingham park in what has been described as an "extremely distressing discovery." The animal is so decomposed that the RSPCA do not know what breed it is or how long it has been there.

The animal welfare charity is appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch as it investigates what happened to the dog. The body was discovered on Monday (September 16) at the Bramcote Hills Park on Ilkeston Road, Bramcote, by council workers.

RSPCA Inspector Pamela Bird said: "This must have been an extremely distressing discovery for the council workers who found the deceased body of this poor dog in the local park. The dog's body is badly decomposed so it could have been there for some time.

"It's also incredibly difficult to ascertain what breed of dog this is but it looks as though it could have been a shar pei or a breed of similar size. Unfortunately, there is no microchip but this could have fallen out due to decomposition and the poor dog is also missing half of his or her face.

"It's not clear at the moment whether this is due to natural factors or something else. We are keen to find out more information and are appealing to the public to contact us if they have any details which may be able to help our enquiries."

Anyone with information is asked to call the RSPCA's inspectorate appeals line on 0300 123 8018. The RSPCA shared an image of the decomposed remains of the dog with this appeal which Nottinghamshire Live decided not to publish due to its nature which some people would find distressing.
