Elderly man attacked in broad daylight by balaclava-wearing man in Newark town centre
by Laycie Beck · NottinghamshireLiveAn elderly man was pushed over and kicked in the head during a vicious broad daylight attack in Newark. The victim was knocked to the ground in the market square just moments after he was narrowly missed by a balaclava-wearing cyclist on Church Street.
The unknown individual then reportedly turned around, pushed the victim over and aimed a kick at his head, before pushing another bystander too. During the incident at around 3.40pm on Friday, October 25, the elderly man sustained injuries to his arm.
Nottinghamshire Police is now trying to trace the man on the bike, who was wearing a black and grey hoodie with the hood up, as well as a balaclava. This man was also accompanied by another balaclava-wearing man in a dark grey tracksuit with the hood up at the time of the incident.
The force has launched an investigation into the assault and released photos taken from the scene. Sergeant Greg Saxelby, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The level of aggression shown in this incident was completely unacceptable and simply won’t be tolerated here in Newark and Sherwood.
“The only positive to be taken from this was that the victim wasn’t seriously injured, after reportedly being pushed over and then having a kick aimed at his head. We want to find whoever was responsible for this assault and hope us sharing these pictures as part of our appeal will help us to do this."
He continued: "If you recognise the person in these images, we’d ask that you contact us. Likewise, if this is you, please do the right thing and come forward, so that we can find out more about what happened.
