Top Valley house fire sees two people rescued from upstairs bedroom window

Two people have been rescued from an upstairs bedroom in a Top Valley house fire. Crews from the Stockhill and Arnold fire stations attended the incident at a semi-detached property early on Thursday (November 14).

The two people inside were alerted to the fire by their smoke alarm and called for help. The pair were given survival guidance by those in the fire control room until crews arrived on the scene.

Firefighters gained access to the bedroom from outside the property using a nine-metre ladder. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus then entered the ground floor to put the fire out, with the property's occupants receiving first aid at the scene.

Station Manager Stan Copson stated: "This morning's incident demonstrated the importance of having a working smoke alarm on each level of your property. Please test your smoke alarms and replace them every 10 years as they can save your life.

"Joint Fire Control was able to give valuable fire survival guidance to the occupants and informed the attending fire crews of their location within the property. This information enabled fire crews to implement immediate firefighting actions to rescue the occupants and resolve the incident."
