Man charged over stabbing of 17-year-old in Nottingham as police refers themselves to watchdog
by Oliver Pridmore · NottinghamshireLiveA man has been charged after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest in Nottingham city centre. Nottinghamshire Police said in its latest update that the teenager is in a critical but stable condition following the incident on Sunday (November 17).
The force also says it has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to its "past involvement with both the suspect and the victim." Mohammed Ahmadalye, of Bath Street in Nottingham, was arrested on Monday (November 18).
Ahmadalye has now been charged with making threats with a bladed article in a public place and wounding with intent. The 22-year-old due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (November 20).
Detective Inspector Luke Waller, of Nottinghamshire Police, previously said: "We know incidents like this cause great concern to our communities, and we take them extremely seriously. I'd like to reassure people that we have a large team investigating this incident and we have increased reassurance patrols in the area while our inquiries continue.
"If anyone has any concerns, we'd encourage them to speak to one of our officers." A cordon was put in place following the incident, which took place on High Street, near the Old Market Square, at around 4am on Sunday.
