DWP warns it will cut five benefits if you ignore letter on doorstep

The DWP is in the process of moving people from certain benefits to others, and it has begun contacting those affected with a warning that support could be lost if they do not take action

Beneficiaries of five specific benefits have been cautioned by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) that a failure to act after receiving an upcoming letter could lead to their payments being halted. The DWP is moving individuals from various benefits and has commenced sending out letters to those affected, warning them to not disregard the notice—doing so may result in stopped payments.

With Tax Credits ending in April 2025, recipients are urged by the DWP to heed their migration notices. Upon receipt of the letter, claimants are given a three-month period to submit their application for Universal Credit, which will take over from their Tax Credits.

Tax Credits are among several benefits being phased out in favour of Universal Credit. The transition also covers:

  • Housing Benefit,
  • Income Support
  • Jobseekers’ Allowance
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance.

Moreover, the commitment to a seamless transition was reiterated with assurances that, "We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition and customers will have the full support of DWP staff to help manage this change.", reports Cornwall Live.
