Man dies after River Soar water rescue operation in Leicester

A man has died after being rescued from the River Soar in Leicester. The incident occurred near Mill Lane, close to De Montfort University campus, with Leicestershire Police responding to reports of a man in the water at 7.30pm on Saturday, October 26.

A representative for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that water rescue teams from its Southern Fire Station were dispatched to assist in locating and rescuing the man from the water. Despite being rushed to Leicester Royal Infirmary, the man sadly died a "short time later", according to a Leicestershire Police spokesperson.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is currently underway, including inquiries into how he ended up in the water. Police have stated that they do not believe there was any "third party involvement" in the incident.

Western Boulevard was cordoned off near the Tesco Express at the junction with Mill Lane as part of the ongoing investigation. Detective Sergeant Vicki Hudson appealed to the public, stating: "We would like to speak to anyone who saw a man in the area or who saw the man enter the water."

She added, "Any information or footage you can provide, for example from a dashcam, could help our investigation.", reports Leicestershire Live.
