Scotland’s First Minister has offered to meet campaigners pushing for upgrades to the A75.

John Swinney has revealed it could be “beneficial” for him to come to Galloway to meet those who want the Euroroute upgraded.

The Scottish Government has recognised the need to upgrade the road in its second strategic transport projects review.

The previous Conservative UK Government allocated £8 million towards a study into possible improvements.

The visit pledge came in response to a request from Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson at Holyrood.

Mr Swinney said: “I would be very happy to meet Mr Carson and his local campaigners to discuss the improvements to the A75 and to take forward that dialogue.

“It might be beneficial for me to come down to Galloway to have that conversation.”
