A short ceremony was held to mark the official opening of Dumfriesshire's much-improved children’s play area in The Royal Burgh of Lochmaben’s Victory Park.
The joint project between Dumfries and Galloway Council and the town’s community council has been ongoing and included new play equipment being installed, with some input on its design from children at Lochmaben Primary School.
Dumfries and Galloway Council contributed £20,000 towards the £46,585 cost which was achieved through funding from Lochmaben Community Council - whose members, Carol Rogerson and Colin Davidson had a pivotal part in making it all happen - and from local business and individuals.
Part of Lochmaben’s Common Good land, the popular park is regarded too as an ideal viewing point for the wetland of international importance, Castle Loch, which is famed for its pink-footed geese.
It is also offers good views of the yacht club and has tennis courts and a bowling green accessible from Annan Road. Victory Park is part of Lochmaben’s Common Land.
The community council are grateful to a number of businesses for their support including Tesco, Grange Quarry, AW Jenkinson, HK Thorburn and Son, Foundation Scotland (ANCBS), the Dumfries and Galloway Council regionwide discretion fund and Lochmaben Common Good.
