One of Lomond Radio’s most far-flung listeners paid a visit to their Dumbarton studios last month.

Marina Karlsson, a Norwegian regular listener of Lomond Radio’s Breakfast Show, paid a visit to the community station’s studios while holidaying in Scotland.

Lomond Radio’s breakfast presenter, Jim Crichton said: “Marina has been a regular listener of the show since its re-launch in February and the first time she contacted the show it was quite a surprise to see a request coming in from Norway.

“I often get requests to play hits by the Bay City Rollers as Marina is an active member of the Facebook Group Ran with the Gang, dedicated to the Bay City Rollers.

“It was lovely to invite Marina into the studios as we knew she had a tour of Scotland planned for the summer and I’ve even been asked to become an honorary member of the group, known as the Crazy Chicks. So I don’t where that leaves me!

“I must have played more Bay City Rollers tracks over the last few months than any other station in the country. During Marina’s visit we had listeners tuning in from Australia, Japan, Canada, the USA and countries all over Europe.

Marina is in Scotland on holiday after 45 years away, and she is organising a Bay City Rollers event in Edinburgh between September 7 and 9 for the members of the Facebook group, who currently have over 2,500 members.

They plan to go on a boat trip from Queensferry to view the Forth bridges, bus trips to visit places relevant to the Bay City Rollers member such as schools, houses. They even have a big party planned in the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh which will be hosted by Jordan Longmuir, son of Alan Longmuir, the founder of the Bay City Rollers and an after dinner speech by Chris Balanowski who was Alan Longmuir’s best friend.

Director and chairman of Lomond Radio, Alan Caldwell said: “Marina has been in regular contact with the station, mostly with our breakfast show presenter Jim Crichton and regularly requests that Jim plays Bay City Rollers Hits.

“While we strive to serve the local communities in the Lomond area, it just shows that the Lomond branding is loved and recognised globally as we often receive messages from around the world.

“Engaging with our listeners is so important to us so it was really good to invite Marina to visit, and we also get to call Jim a crazy chick now!”
