Tributes have been paid by the headteachers of two schoolboys who died in a horror crash on the M6. Filip Rossa, 15, and Dominic Rossa, seven, were tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the collision alongside their father, Jaroslaw Rossa, 42, and his partner, Jade McEnroe, 33, on Tuesday, October 15.

Following the tragedy, tributes have flooded in for the family. And now the school leaders of Lochend Community High and Oakwood Primary have hailed the "well loved and respected" pupils who "always had smiles on their faces".

Paying tribute to Filip, Katy Anderson, headteacher at Lochend, said: “Our school community is in shock, and we cannot believe the news about Filip. He was a well loved and respected young person who has touched the lives of so many in our school community and was our school chess champion.

“A highly intelligent, caring boy with a brilliant sense of humour, Filip was particularly fond of his science subjects and aspired to go to university to study either architecture or science. Filip was always the first to help in a situation and it is now our turn to help and send our love to his family and friends at this heartbreaking time. We will do everything that we can to support the family and navigate our school community through this devastating situation.”

Speaking of Dominic, Vanessa Thomson, headteacher at Oakwood, said: “Dominic was a beautiful, kind, curious wee boy who loved life and always had a smile on his face. He had a magnetic personality and always had a story to tell everyone in school and we all took joy in the obvious interests and love he had in life and his world around him.

“Dominic loved art and storytelling, creating his own imaginative creative worlds. Our school community is heartbroken, and our thoughts and prayers are with Dominic’s family and friends – we cannot begin to imagine how they are dealing with the devastating news. Dominic’s’ gentle, kind, thoughtfulness will be so missed by all of us at Oakwood, who loved him dearly.”

Emergency services, including two air ambulances, raced to the incident northbound just past Tebay services in Cumbria after receiving reports of a head-on collision between a Skoda and a Toyota.

Arran Martin, seven, who survived the crash, remains in a coma in hospital in Newcastle. It is understood the family had been driving home to Glasgow in the Toyota from Legoland when the tragedy took place. The driver of a Skoda, a 40-year-old man from Cambridgeshire, also died.

Earlier this week, the two Filip and Dominic's mum, Kamilla, also paid tribute to her "beloved angels" following both of her sons' untimely deaths.

She said: "We are heartbroken at the passing of our beloved angels. Filip was very intelligent, sensitive and full of love. We will never forget his smile, open arms, and the words 'tuli, tuli' (hugs, hugs). He was fascinated by computer games but also incredibly good at chess. He loved chemistry and dreamed of studying at the University of Glasgow.

Dominic was always smiling, very resolute and sociable. He was extremely caring, always thinking of others first, and the first to help if someone was in trouble. Always surrounded by a group of friends of all ages. He loved dinosaurs and Pokémon, but most of all he loved penguins and dreamed of adopting one. Our lives will never be the same again.”

Filip and Dominic's father, Jaroslaw, otherwise known as Jarek, worked as a chef at Wagamama in Silverburn shopping centre. The food chain's CEO, Thomas Heier, described the late father as a "cherished chef and friend" as he paid tribute to Jaroslaw on Thursday evening.

He said: "His warmth, dedication and kindness are the characteristics of Jaroslaw that will stay with the team long after his passing. We send our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family, for which we know he was deeply devoted to. Jaroslaw, you will live in our hearts and minds forever."

Jade, who worked at The Gin Spa in Glasgow, was described as a "devoted mother" who had "the warmest smile" by her colleagues following her untimely death. Writing online, management at the spa said: "It's with deep sadness and a heavy heart that I must share the news of the death of our much-loved therapist, Jade McEnroe. Jade passed away on Tuesday following a tragic car accident.

"We will all miss her dearly as she was not only our co-worker but our friend who brightened every day with the warmest smile. She was the kindest soul and a devoted mother, and her devastating loss will undoubtedly be felt by many people. Our thoughts are with Jade's family."

Police say enquiries into the incident remain ongoing. Cumbria Police have urged anybody who may have witnessed the fatal crash to come forward. Meanwhile, an online fundraiser has been set up in the wake of the tragedy to support the relatives of both families involved.

A statement on the GoFundMe reads: "In addition to the huge emotional loss and impact, there is sadly a financial burden to consider at this time, for both families. This GoFundMe has been set up to allow everyone to offer any financial support which may help ease some of the burden at this time for both families, including assisting with the cost of funerals and everything else which comes alongside this."

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses to the fatal collision. Anyone with information relating to this incident can report online at https://orlo.uk/IzuxI, quoting incident number 146 of October 15 2024. You can also phone on 101. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
