A man has been left scarred for life after a horror attack at a popular theme park.

Connor Orr slashed Liam Brannigan twice with a piece of glass following a row over a spilt drink on March 17 last year.

Orr, 32, admitted assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurement at M&D’s in Strathclyde Park, Lanarkshire.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that the victim and his friends were playing pool when trouble broke out with a party that included Orr.

Scott O’Connor, pro-secuting, said: “One of Mr Brannigan’s friends dropped a drink, causing the other males to become angry. Both groups were involved in a large altercation.

“Security staff had to intervene and ask the accused’s group to leave.

“The complainer and his friends left shortly before 10pm and were standing at the exit.

“Orr ran towards them and Mr Brannigan saw he had something in his hand. He was struck twice on the head.”

The victim was taken to hospital where a wound behind his ear was closed with nine stitches.

Defence lawyer Chris Devine said warehouse worker Orr, of Cambuslang, near Glasgow, has no previous convictions.

Mr Devine added: “He has not been in trouble since this incident 18 months ago. He is a genuine first offender.”

Sheriff Liam Murphy deferred sentence until next month for background reports and an electronic tagging assessment but warned Orr: “All sentencing options, including custody, are open.”
