Man dies in horrific crash after Jaguar driver 'loses control while overtaking'

A man has been killed after a Jaguar driver allegedly 'lost control of his car while overtaking'.
The incident happened in Bolton at around 6.45pm on Monday. The victim, a man in his 40s, was walking on the pavement when the blue Jaguar XE mounted the kerb and fatally struck him, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on Monday evening, with part of the road sealed off and a blue evidence tent set up behind police tape. A severely damaged car was visible within the cordoned area.
The driver of the Jaguar, a man in his 20s, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently being questioned in custody.

Local residents described the harrowing scene, with one recounting: "Someone was having CPR performed [on them]."
They added: "One of the concrete pillars that separates the railings has been split in half, it sounds like they [the driver] has mounted the pavement."
Another witness mentioned: "Got caught up in it. They were performing CPR on someone as I was turning around."
Greater Manchester Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. An SCIU spokesperson stated: "Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward."
"They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, mobile phone or doorbell footage, from the area in the moments leading up to the collision. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 4741 quoting log number 2778 of 28/10/24."
