Body found in woodland during search for missing Scots man

Police confirmed that a man's body was found on Wednesday, October 9, at 12.25pm in the Mayfield area of Dalkeith.

A body has been found in woodland during searches for a man reported missing from Dalkeith. Robert Blair, 67, was last seen on Monday, October 7.

A major search was launched after Police Scotland said they were "very concerned for Robert’s safety".

A police helicopter and mountain rescue teams were all involved in the search for Robert, known locally as Davie. Search teams scoured the Dalkeith, Mayfield and Danderhall areas.

Police confirmed that a man's body was found on Wednesday, October 9, at around 12.25pm in the Mayfield area of Dalkeith. Formal identification is yet to take place but the body is believed to be Robert. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A post on a local Facebook page from Robert's family confirmed he had been found earlier on Wednesday. It said: "With the family's permission, saadly Davey Blair was found earlier today. The family wish to thank everyone that helped in there efforts to help find him.

"Funeral details will be published in Due course ..REST IN PEACE DAVEY XX"

A Police Scotland statement said: "Around 12.25pm on Wednesday, 9 October, police were notified a man’s body had been found in a wooded area in the Mayfield area of Dalkeith. Formal identification has still to take place, however we believe it to be 67-year-old Robert Blair who was missing from Dalkeith.
